The purpose in a man’s mind is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out. -Proverbs 20:5
Assessment
Sometimes, people contact Gratia Plena and have an apparent idea of what they believe is their issue of concern. For example, they may call and ask for help so that they can achieve freedom from addiction. Other times, people call and report feeling “down in the dumps” but are not sure what is causing them to feel depressed. Finally, some people visit us because they feel that something is not right with their lives, and sometimes they are in crisis.
An assessment involves an interview, but it may also involve psychological testing or evaluation. The interview may begin briefly over the phone. Unless a referral is made, Gratia Plena staff will complete the interview with the person in the office.
If you have any medical records or test reports from previous mental health treatment, it would be helpful to bring them to the office for the assessment. These documents may be beneficial as part of the evaluation. Sometimes, family members or friends can also provide information during the assessment process—new clients complete paperwork for the first meeting, similar to that of a medical office.
Gratia Plena staff will provide feedback and recommendations at the end of the evaluation. The feedback may or may not indicate a need for treatment. If treatment is necessary, we will discuss available options with the person and respect their autonomy in deciding on their next step. This discussion will include the advantages and disadvantages of each option and the person’s personal preferences. One or more referrals may be made if you choose to begin treatment at Gratia Plena; the service provider will help you develop a Personal Change Plan, also known as a “treatment plan.” This plan ensures that the provider and client have the same goals.
Consultation
Sometimes, people would like to talk with a counselor about a specific personal, marriage, or family issue but don’t want to begin a counseling course. We are happy to meet with someone for a one-time consultation to hear the concerns and offer suggestions or feedback.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
As of September 1, 2024, Gratia Plena requires a $30 deposit to schedule initial evaluation and consultation appointments. This deposit will be used toward payment of the fee for the initial evaluation or consultation but is non-refundable in the event that the initial evaluation or consultation appointment is missed, cancelled late, or if the person withdraws interest in coming to Gratia Plena after scheduling but prior to the appointment. If the scheduled time needs to be rescheduled, this can be done in advance (at least a day ahead) without forfeiting the deposit.
